Message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of Ecuador

Dear Friends,

On the occasion of the Anniversary of Ecuador’s Independence and the commemoration of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Ecuador and the Republic of India, it is my pleasure to share this message celebrating two milestones of deep historical and strategic significance.

Over the past five and a half decades, Ecuador and India have cultivated a relationship grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic values, and a common vision for inclusive and sustainable development. Our bilateral cooperation has grown steadily, encompassing key sectors such as trade, education, defence, finance, and capacity building. Institutional mechanisms like the Political Consultations and the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) are enabling us to expand collaboration in high-impact areas including pharmaceuticals, digital transformation, sustainable technologies, and advanced manufacturing.

India is a trusted partner in our economic diversification efforts. Our trade relations, marked by natural complementarities, span from energy and agricultural products to health technologies and innovation. We deeply value India’s contribution to human development in Ecuador, particularly through programmes such as the ITEC scholarships, which foster mutual understanding and skill exchange.

The cultural dimension of our partnership continues to flourish. Indian traditions—yoga, Ayurveda, and the spiritual teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism—are increasingly embraced in Ecuador. This growing interest reflects the deepening connection between our peoples and enhances the richness of our bilateral ties.

India’s growing engagement with Latin America also offers promising avenues for regional cooperation. Indian companies are making important inroads across the continent in sectors like renewable energy, infrastructure, and information technology, affirming India’s global vision and commitment to shared development.

As we mark these anniversaries, Ecuador reaffirms its firm commitment to strengthening ties with India. The path ahead is filled with opportunities—not only in established areas of cooperation but also in emerging fields linked to the digital economy and the knowledge society. Together, we can build a forward-looking partnership that contributes meaningfully to the prosperity and well-being of both our nations.

With warmest regards and best wishes for continued friendship and success,

H.E. Madam María Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of Ecuador
