The Seychelles National Museum of History, located a stone’s throw from Port Victoria’s landmark clock tower, has a story to tell. Like an art gallery, but with much more to it, it is housed in the colonial-era Supreme Court building (built in 1885); an iconic landmark which plays the lead role in the list of the island’s many historic attractions and landmarks.

While the building itself has gone under extensive renovation to return to its original state, the building has hardly changed since the days it was built and maintains many of its original features. It truly serves as a prism of time and is well worth exploring.

Charged with the acquisition, preservation and exhibition of historical artefacts, the museum is an informative journey into the past few hundred years.

As visitors, expect to spot Seychelles’ oldest map drawn in 1517, the world’s smallest statuette of Queen Victoria, the Stone of Possession and other objects of interest that embody some of the traditions and manners of a life long gone.

So if you are interested in the origins of the melting pot nation and the events which have shaped the island nation in recent centuries, then visit to the National Museum of History.
