El Salvador is recognized globally for the high quality of the coffees produced in its mountain ranges.
Of the varieties grown in our soil, there is one that has a distinctive character that makes it unique. This is Pacamara coffee, a speciality developed in Salvadoran territory, which haspositioneditselfamongthebestintheworldsinceitssuccessfullaunchonthemarket in 1992.
The unique taste and exotic fragrance emanating from each bean of this variant are greatly appreciated by lovers of this fruit, those for whom the aromatic is much more than a beverage, but rather an essential part of life.
With a pronounced body and a creamy character, Pacamara is also highly valued by local and international tasters and qualifiers, who highlight its properties and the sensations it awakens in the nose, with its floral notes. While its flavour attributes offer a taste of chocolate, clove, cinnamon, vanilla and berries; with a sweet, lingering and pleasant aftertaste, with a crisp, juicy and bright acidity.
Therefore, it is not surprising that this speciality frequently occupies the first places in the Cup of Excellence contest, organised annually by the Salvadoran Coffee Institute (ISC), an event focused on evaluating the quality of this product, which contributes to the projection and positioning of our bean abroad and, of course, to boosting coffee sales at the best prices.
According to this entity, the Pacamara has reached up to 93.52 points in this contest, achieving prices of upto US $95.7 per pound. Among the main destinations to which it is shipped are the United States, Japan, South Korea, Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Its world-class quality has also earned it the title of “Presidential Coffee” on several occasions, as well as being part of the special coffee selection for the Bicentenary of El Salvador’s Independence in 2021.
Similarly, its acceptance and popularity have led to the cultivation of this variety spreading to other Central American countries, Mexico and Peru. Meanwhile, in our country, it is produced in all coffee-growing regions.
For all these reasons, at the beginning of 2024, the Legislative Assembly decreed the celebration of Pacamara Coffee Day, every 23rd March, as a way of honouring those who dedicate themselves to national coffee growing and to promote this historic industry, of great economic, cultural and social impact; with emphasis and in distinction to this fruit originating in our country.
In this line, the Salvadoran Embassies and Consulates also join and are part of this commemoration; by means of different events of commercial and cultural promotion, in which, beyond concreting new business opportunities, we seek to get closer and strengthen even more our ties of friendship with other people, just with a good cup of coffee from El Salvador.
