New Delhi: India-Bhutan Friendship Association (IBFA) hosted at Reception on 1st May 2018, at MERI College, Janakpuri, New Delhi to commemorate the Birthday of the Third Druk Gyalpo, as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India
The India-Bhutan Friendship Association (IBFA) hosted a Reception to commemorate the Birthday of His Majesty the Third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, on 1st May 2018, at the MERI College, Janakpuri, New Delhi. His Majesty the Third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck is not only the father of modern Bhutan but also the main architect of India-Bhutan relations.
H.E. Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, Minister for Economic Affairs of Bhutan, graced the function as the Chief Guest. H.E. Major General V. Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to India and Shri R. Gururaj, Deputy-Secretary, North Division, Ministry of External Affairs, also graced the function. The members of the IBFA, other well-wishers and friends of Bhutan from India, faculty, staff and students of MERI College, and officers and staff from the Royal Bhutanese Embassy attended the function.
Dignitaries spoke about the exemplary relations that Bhutan and India have had in the last 50 years and expressed hope and confidence that the relations will grow from strength to strength in the next 50 years and beyond. Dignitaries also highlighted the role played by IBFA in enhancing India-Bhutan relations, especially people-to-people relations in the last 46 years of its existence. Students from MERI College presented a cultural program.
This function is a part of a series of events planned to mark the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India.
