Slovakia’s dedication to enhancing educational collaboration with India was further demonstrated by its significant presence at the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2025 conference in New Delhi. This event featured the largest academic delegation from Slovakia since its independence, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Education and 14 public universities. Their participation aimed to bolster academic cooperation, raise Slovakia’s international visibility as an attractive destination for students and scholars, and establish new partnerships with esteemed Indian institutions.
In New Delhi, representatives from the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic and Slovak universities visited the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) to explore opportunities for collaboration. Renowned for its excellence in engineering, technology, and research, IIT Delhi offers a diverse array of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programmes across 16 academic departments, including applied mechanics, informatics, chemical engineering, computer science, and electrical engineering, fields in particularly high demand globally.
The Slovak delegation was received with genuine warmth and enthusiasm, underscoring India’s strong interest in strengthening ties with Slovak higher education institutions. Indian academic leaders were invited to visit Slovakia to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s academic strengths and dynamic research landscape. The invitation was accepted by IIT Delhi representatives, whose upcoming visit aims to explore collaborative ventures and foster academic exchange.
Meetings were also held at the ministerial level. Slovak State Secretary Róbert Zsembera met with Minister Shri Dr Sukanta Majumdar and State Secretary Rajeev Kumar Sinha to discuss student and academic mobility, as well as opportunities for higher education cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, Minister Majumdar received an invitation on behalf of Slovak Minister Tomáš Drucker to attend the OECD Global Forum, which Slovakia will host in November this year. The central theme of the forum will be education in the field of artificial intelligence.
The Slovak pavilion at APAIE 2025 emerged as a prominent point of interest, attracting numerous international delegates. Among the visitors was the Georgian Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Aleksander Tsuladze, who praised the presentation of Slovak universities and expressed an interest in initiating bilateral cooperation.

Pursuant to the transitional provisions of this Act, HEIs can enrol students only into accredited study programmes operating under the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), ensuring compatibility and recognition across Europe.
Higher Education System in Slovakia

Universities operate under a three-tier system, offering Bachelor’s (first level), Master’s (second level), and PhD. (third level) programmes.
