Furthermore, our expertise in cybersecurity, particularly in data breach investigation and mitigation, in collaboration with Verizon’s first responders, ensures that organizations, including Guyana, have resilient IT infrastructure capable of defending against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

The Government of Guyana has been actively seeking to bolster its defense systems. What role do you think you can play in partnering with the Government of Guyana for the same?

As an expert in national security, semiconductor technology, and cybersecurity, my contribution to enhancing Guyana’s defense systems would be multifaceted. Given Guyana’s strategic location in South America and the Caribbean, and the recent discovery of significant offshore oil and gas reserves, it is imperative to fortify its defense capabilities. Firstly, the Government of Guyana should focus on integrating advanced anti-drone solutions at borders and critical installations. This includes implementing 24/7 surveillance systems tailored to meet specific demands and executing a range of strategic missions such as intelligence collection, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance. At Homeland, we can provide customized defence solutions to address the unique security challenges faced by Guyana. For instance, our advanced anti-drone and UAV systems can safeguard critical infrastructure and government facilities by enhancing the ability to detect, track, and neutralize unauthorized drones, thereby protecting vital assets, including offshore oil & gas reserves. Additionally, we can assist in modernizing Guyana’s military equipment and enhancing training programs. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies we can improve the operational effectiveness of Guyana’s defence forces.

The current geopolitics has altered the defence market considerably. How do you perceive the Guyana defence market and its future?

The defense market in Guyana is poised for significant changes, driven by its border controversy, notably with Venezuela over the Essequibo region. With substantial offshore oil reserves, there is a pressing need to protect these valuable resources from threats such as drug trafficking and illegal mining. This could lead to increased investment in maritime defense capabilities, including patrol vessels and surveillance systems. Moreover, Guyana may focus on modernizing its military equipment and enhancing training programs to bolster its operational effectiveness and contribute to regional stability.

According to Qureshey, the challenge is to make a compelling positive case for our approach and then deliver on it without emphasizing the challenges posed by techno-authoritarianism. To overcome this challenge, he suggests collaborating with partners and allies to develop and deploy technology. This is where the potential for cooperation and collaboration between India and Guyana, which have aligned interests, as well as with global partners who share similar objectives, becomes crucial.

For Guyana, this means leveraging these advancements to drive economic growth, enhance national security, and improve the overall quality of life for its citizens.
