Led by a Man of Integrity – Dr. Prithvi Mohandas
MIOT International is a global healthcare destination that was founded in Chennai, India, in 1999 and has been bringing exceptional care to people from over 130 countries. With 1,000 beds, 250 full-time doctors and 63 specialities, the hospital is celebrating 25 years of integrity in healthcare.
At the helm of MIOT International is Dr. Prithvi Mohandas, its Managing Director and a true man of integrity. Born into an illustrious family of doctors, he always demanded the best from himself and developed strong leadership qualities, right from childhood. With a passion for healthcare, he completed his medical degree from Madras Medical College on merit. Then, he travelled to the UK for higher studies. He went on to train in orthopaedic surgery and even lectured at the British Orthopaedic Society. Following this, he received an opportunity to do a 3-year fellowship focused on surgery of the hip joint at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, UK.
As he gained global exposure in orthopaedics, his long-term vision brought him back to his homeland. Having always shared his father, Prof. Dr. P.V.A. Mohandas’ dream of ‘affordable healthcare for all’, he joined MIOT International as an orthopaedic surgeon in 2007. His immense dedication and excellence enabled him to shoulder greater responsibility as the hospital’s Joint Managing Director within a year and become the Managing Director in 2014.
MIOT International’s 20-year healthcare partnership with Seychelles has always been special to Dr. Prithvi Mohandas. He has played a significant role in advancing this relationship with his steadfast commitment to make affordable, world-class healthcare accessible to Seychellois. Under his leadership, the hospital has grown to become the people’s first choice for overseas medical treatment.
With the MIOT Hospitals Information Centre serving as a gateway to care, more than 15,000 Seychellois have been successfully treated at MIOT International so far. Even at the peak of the COVID pandemic in 2020, Dr. Prithvi Mohandas provided uncompromising care by enabling nearly 40 Seychellois to visit MIOT International for treatment, through a special flight arranged by the Government of Seychelles and MOH.
Dr. Prithvi Mohandas endeavoured to extend this long-standing bond of trust by identifying the most important health needs of the people. He personally studied the healthcare landscape of the country and its epidemiology. And then concluded that the people needed a holistic, state-of-the-art eye care facility.
Dr. Prithvi Mohandas took the next significant step in fulfilling his vision for the health of Seychellois. MIOT International Total Eye Care was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan in 2022. It is a one-stop destination for daycare eye surgery and all other eye care needs, including prescription eyewear. Dr. Prithvi Mohandas handpicked a team of expert ophthalmologists and highly-skilled optometrists, with over 20 years of experience in their field and in patient care. They are backed by the most advanced eye care technology and modern facilities for patient comfort.
Dr. Prithvi Mohandas understood the people’s need for state-of-the art diagnostics and quality ENT care. This led him to launch MIOT’s Instant Digital X-ray and facilitate ENT specialist consultations at MIOT (Seychelles) Medical in 2023. He went a step further and introduced master health check-ups (general and cardiac packages) by MIOT’s experts for both men & women, backed by an array of cutting-edge diagnostics.
Dr. Prithvi Mohandas launched MIOT’s Advanced 4D Ultrasound for high-precision imaging which promotes accurate treatment planning. It is used to perform a range of scans as well as echocardiograms. He also introduced the revolutionary Holter Rhythm Patch for continuous monitoring of the heart.
When patients need to consult with a super-specialist at MIOT International, they cannot afford to compromise on the quality of teleconsultation. Understanding that the doctor needed to be present next to them in real-time and also make essential diagnostic evaluations in real-time, Dr. Prithvi Mohandas introduced MIOT’s new-age telemedicine at MIOT (Seychelles) Medical.
