S. Jaishankar Calls for Resilient Global Supply Chains at G20 Atlanta Summit

G20 Global Supply Chain Resilience

Atlanta, USA: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar highlighted India’s priorities for building resilient, diversified and transparent global supply chains during Plenary III on Supply Chains at the G20 Summit in Atlanta, emphasising the need for international cooperation to strengthen global economic stability.

Addressing the evolving challenges facing the global economy, Jaishankar underlined that securing supply chains and ensuring their resilience have become central to global economic well-being. He noted that disruptions caused by pandemics, geopolitical conflicts, climate events and unforeseen incidents highlight the importance of developing reliable and diversified supply networks.

The External Affairs Minister stressed that the right to industrialise must be promoted while firmly resisting predatory practices and attempts to undermine fair competition. He also emphasised the importance of diversification and de-risking, particularly in connectivity, as essential elements of long-term supply chain resilience.

Diversification and De-Concentration Key to Global Economic Stability

Highlighting the need for a more balanced global economic structure, Jaishankar called for reducing the concentration of production and economic activities across limited geographies. He emphasised that optimising production across different regions could help discourage the weaponisation of finance, natural resources, production capabilities and market share.

He further called for the de-politicisation of markets, stressing that global economic systems should operate through transparent, predictable and inclusive mechanisms rather than being influenced by geopolitical considerations.

G20 Cooperation for Transparent and Multiple Supply Chains

Jaishankar also highlighted the responsibility of G20 member countries to reconcile their respective national interests with the broader objective of collective global prosperity. He advocated promoting transparent and multiple supply chains to create a more inclusive and multi-stakeholder global economy.

His remarks underscored India’s emphasis on international cooperation, economic diversification, fair competition and resilient connectivity as essential pillars of sustainable global growth.

As the G20 continues to address emerging economic and geopolitical challenges, India’s position reflects the importance of building supply chains that are diversified, dependable and accessible to all participating economies.
