The Capital of the Slovak Republic BRATISLAVA, also referred to as “the Beauty on the Danube” cannot only pride in its compelling history, but also by its centre, which is one of the most dynamically developing regions of central Europe nowadays. Its uniqueness comes also from its location as the only capital in the world situated on the borders of three countries. Connected to Vienna and Budapest by the Danube River, Bratislava was once a trilingual city and a significant centre of Hungary. In the Gothic cathedral – St. Martin’s Cathedral, the crown was officially placed on the monarch Maria Theresa and throughout 267 years another 17 Hungarian kings and queens were crowned there.

A monument not to miss in the city centre is the Grassalkovich Palace. This summer palace built in the 18th century in rococo style serves as the seat of the President of the Slovak Republic. Recently renovated garden behind the Presidential Palace is open to the public and is very popular for enjoying a little bit of relax amid a humming city centre.

First time visitors should not omit Slavin. Overlooking the city is the largest war memorial in Central Europe with the height of 52 meters. It´s a memorial of Soviet soldiers dying during the liberation of Bratislava in World War II.
