At the end of last year, the Government of El Salvador presented a new Economic Diplomacy Strategy for the period 2025 – 2029, implemented through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the 104 representations that make up the Salvadoran network of Embassies, Consulates and Economic Counsellors around the world.
This initiative marks the route for the promotion and projection work that this Ministry portfolio and the representations carry out in a comprehensive, modern and dynamic manner to boost exports, promote the attraction of investment, encourage tourism and make the most of the network of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements, in line with the priorities set out in the Government of El Salvador’s Economic Plan.
This proposal arises from the overcoming of historical challenges that for decades hindered the country’s growth, including security, which has made it possible to position our nation as one of the most attractive destinations in the region for business and travel.
“The Economic Diplomacy Strategy reflects the conviction that our work must become a lever for national growth. It is not only about deploying diplomatic actions, but also about integrating state capacities and resources with the private sector and international allies, in order to boost trade, encourage job creation, attract high value-added investments and ensure that the opportunities offered by the global market translate in to concrete benefits for all Salvadorans,” explains the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Hill.
In this line, the initiative establishes guidelines and protocols for action to encourage with greater determination the promotion of El Salvador’s exportable supply, the flow of capital in strategic sectors, the increase of tourism and the signing of agreements with key partners.
It also prioritizes the construction of alliances that allow for the financing of high-impact projects in areas such as transport, renewable energies and technology, while consolidating El Salvador’s position in multilateral spaces.
AllthisworkisfacilitatedandenhancedbytheadvantagesandattractionsofEl Salvador for the implementation of productive ideas: a solid export platform, one of the lowest inflation rates in the region, a highly productive workforce, incentives and a legal frame work that guarantees legal security, simplified procedures, trade agreements and a strategic location and connectivity that opens the doors to the world’s main markets and gives access to millions of consumers.
“All these factors, together with the concrete actions defined in the Economic Diplomacy Strategy 2025 – 2029, put us on a clear path towards a future of greater prosperity and competitiveness,” adds Minister Hill.
Thus, in 2024, through this work carried out directly by the Foreign Ministry, together with the Salvadoran Embassies, Consulates and Counsellors, an amount of $3.5 million was achieved in foreign sales of plastic products, manufactured goods, coffee, food and beverages, textiles and clothing, among others. While the amount of investments managed was $111.5 million, in areas such as real estate, tourism and manufacturing, to mention a few.
Meanwhile, in the first months of 2025, 80 activities have been carried out, including 25 exploratory missions to do business with El Salvador, as well as the holding abroad of 10 tourism promotion events, another 16 focused on stimulating investment, and 29 more for the positioning of exportable supply in international markets.
One of the destinations where work is being done to expand economic relations and trade exchanges is precisely India, where alliances have been established with partners such as the Food Importers Forum of India (FIFI), to promote and position the Salvadoran export offer, in this case, through beverages, food products and agro-industrial products. Similarly, opportunities and possibilities are being explored in other sectors (https://rree.gob.sv/representacion-diplomatica-en-india-realizo-evento-de-promocion-de-ron-salvadoreno/).
