India and Uzbekistan share a relationship that goes back thousands of years. Traders, travellers, writers, poets, scientists, professionals, and others strengthened these bonds over centuries of continuous exchange and interaction. There is a strong people-to-people connect and goodwill between the two countries. Both countries have many similarities in their culture, family values, language, cuisine, architecture.
In recent time our strategic partnership and international cooperation has further strengthened and expanded. Our relationship has received guidance and impetus from regular high-level visits. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has visited Uzbekistan in 2015 and in 2016 and had fruitful discussions with the leadership of Uzbekistan, rejuvenating our relationship. H.E. Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan had a historic visit to India in September – October 2018 during which a number of agreements were signed and several landmark decisions were taken. H.E. the President visited India again in January 2019 to participate as Chief Guest in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
We are working together to implement the decisions and directions of our leadership. We are thankful to the people of India and Uzbekistan, the business community, the tour operators, the academics, and others, for supporting our common efforts to further strengthen our relationship.
I have great pleasure in presenting to you this Special Edition by Envoy Excellency on India-Uzbekistan relations on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
