Hon’ble Vice President of India, H.E. Mr. M Venkaiah Naidu meets H.E. Mr. Klaus Werner Lohannis, President of Romania on his visit to Romania (September 18-20, 2018)

New Delhi: At the invitation of the President of the Senate of Romania, Mr. CalinPopescu-Tariceanu, the Vice President of the Republic of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu visited to Romania from 18 – 20 September 2018. Vice President Naidu is accompanied by Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, MOS in the Ministry of Finance, 3 Members of Parliament, Rajya Sabha- Shri Prasanna Acharya, Smt.VijilaSathyananth, Ms.Saroj Pandey and 1 Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha- Shri RaghavLakhanpal, along with other senior government officials. The visit is coinciding with the 70 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Romania and also the Centenary year for Romania.

Vice President Naidu was received by President of Senate Tariceanu and was accorded a very warm welcome. President Tariceanu also hosted a Lunch Banquet in his honour. Vice President Naidu had separate meetings with the President of Romania-Mr. Klaus Iohannis, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romanian Parliament- Mr. NicolaeLiviuDragnea, and Prime Minister of Romania- Ms. VasilicaVioricaDancila.

The bilateral talks with the Romanian leadership were held in a warm, cordial and positive atmosphere, reflecting the long-standing and friendly bilateral relationship between India and Romania. Our ties are based on shared values of democracy, freedom and rule of law and are supported by our traditional and historic linkages. The leaders recalled the strength imparted to bilateral relationship by the Declaration of Extended Partnership which was signed 5 years ago.The leaders reviewed the existing bilateral ties and discussed possibilities of enhancing relations across the broad spectrum of relationship including political, economic, academic and cultural linkages.

The two sides appreciated the bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries and expressed desire to increase bilateral trade which stands at USD 810 million to higher levels in the coming years. They welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation on Tourism, Memorandum of Understanding betweenPetroleum-Gas University, Ploiesti and PanditDeenDayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar and three Memorandas of Understanding of Bucharest Chamber of Commerce each with CII, ASSOCHAM and PHDCCI.

Both sides appreciated a long tradition of the Indology and welcomed the growing popularity of Yoga in Romania. Given the increasing interest in Ayurveda in Romania, Vice President of India inaugurated the AYUSH Information Cell and unveiled a Book on Ayurveda.

Vice President Naidu thanked Romanian leaders for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
