Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the High level segment of the “World Climate Action Summit” of the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference COP-28, on 01 December 2023, being held at Dubai, UAE from 30 November-12 December 2023 under the presidency of the UAE.
In a special address at the opening of the High level segment, Prime Minister highlighted India’s ambitious climate commitments and achievements in meeting the climate goals. He also emphasized the need for making means of implementation available for the Global South to enable pursuit of their climate ambitions.
Prime Minister invited the world leaders to join the Green Credits Initiative, co-launched by India with UAE.
During his address, Prime Minister urged the leaders for resolute Climate Action:
• To be Decisive – Countries must fulfill their climate commitments
• To work in Unity – Countries must work together; Developing countries must have a just share in Global Carbon Budget
• To be more Balanced – in Adaption, Mitigation, Climate Finance, Technology, Loss & Damage
• To be Ambitious – Ensuring that energy transition is just, inclusive & equitable
• To be Innovative – Countries must develop innovative technologies and share technologies with other countries; strengthen clean energy supply chain.
Prime Minister also proposed to host the COP-33 in India in 2028.
